The Gallardo branch of the Lamborghini family is getting a new member in the form of a 550-horsepower Spyder.
The new Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder was unveiled at one of many events taking place Wednesday in conjunction with the L.A. Auto Show. Lamborghini says the new Spyder’s chassis was re-tuned from its use on the all-wheel-drive Gallardo to handle the power going only to the rear wheels. To help with power-handling, the Spyder uses different damper settings and revised aerodynamics as well.
Lamborghini’s first rear-wheel-drive convertible since the Diablo SV Roadster in 1998, the Gallardo LP550-2 can sprint to 60 in 4.2 seconds on its way to a 198 mph top speed through either a six-speed manual or sequential e-gear transmission. The 3,351 pound bull also benefits from a 47/53 front-to-rear weight distribution meaning it will take you open-air motoring on your favorite twisties at a spirited pace.
